Underground Mining

Due to the constantly growing demand for ores it is becoming more and more attractive to extract raw materials underground at increasingly greater depths.

Whether and when deposits are profitable also depends on the efficiency of the technology used to extract ore deposits.

We have therefore used our expertise in mechanized tunnelling to develop innovative machine concepts for a variety of applications in mining.

Whether for vertical access or production shafts, inclined vehicle access ramps, ventilation shafts or transport routes, Herrenknecht technology is designed for smallest and largest diameters and can reach depths of up to 2,000 meters.

The innovative solutions are based on proven principles and stand for high advance rates and compact design. Herrenknecht's tunnelling technology is thus optimally designed for the safe, fast and efficient mechanized construction of shafts and galleries in all areas of mining.

SHAFT BORING CUTTERHEAD (SBC)

The Shaft Boring Cutterhead (SBC) is developed for mechanized full-face shaft sinking in hard rock to a depth of 2,000 meters. The excavation sequence is highly automated.

GRIPPER TBM

Herrenknecht Gripper TBMs have proven to be efficient solutions for fast mechanized tunnelling in hard rock on many occasions. Due to the process-typical rock support method without segments, medium to high rock strengths are a requirement for high advance rates. In more fractured geological formations, various systems for immediate rock support behind the cutterhead are installed at the TBM directly.

REEF BORING MACHINE

The Herrenknecht Reef Boring Machine (RBM) safely and efficiently creates horizontal and ascending boreholes with inclinations of up to 40°. In stable rock with up to 300 megapascals and with excavation diameters of up to 1.5 meters, the RBM achieves borehole lengths of up to 40 meters.
